goodbye, john
a single by joe stamm
Releasing May 7th
I wanted to call this song “John Prine,” but my distributor and their partners (i.e. Apple, Spotify, etc.) wouldn’t let me. For me, John’s death on April 7th was kind of that “hit home” moment…like, “This thing is really gonna change our lives.”
We had already been sheltered in place for 3 weeks by then, but it was almost a novelty at first – some much needed time off…some time catch up on projects and rest and Netflix. Then John passed away. And the days drug on. And it’s Spring. And it’s raining a lot. And it’s windy. I needed to write.
And “Goodbye, John” just kinda poured out.
This moment in history has been difficult…difficult for so many of us. It’s a moment that we’ll read about in history books as an absolute disaster.
But while not taking anything away from the tragedies that are resulting, like John Prine’s passing, for example, I hope you’re discovering some things about yourself. I hope you’re finding beauty within the ugliness. I hope while you’re stuck at home, among family, and perhaps a few close friends, you’re finding your own little corner of Paradise. And I hope this song might help you look around and see that Paradise just a little more clearly.
I’ve found much of that beauty in you – my fans, friends and supporters. Which is why I wanted to surprise you with this song release. Thanks for being in my corner. When you’re here, it is my own little corner of Paradise.
Stay safe. Your friend,
Joe
LYRICS
I never been one to watch the news
But I been watchin every day or two
We been goin to town about once a week
Buy a case a beer and some groceries
It's hard to know what a man should think
And it's hard to know who he should believe
But one thing's sure, when it runs its course
The world won't spin like it did before
So let's rock 'n roll, let's ride high
Lookin' for a mood on a radio dial
It's a crazy world, it's a crazy time
Waitin on the radio to play John Prine
In my own little way I wanna say goodbye
I told Elise let's go for a drive
Grab the dog and the smoke and a couple Busch Lights
Can't stop nowhere, they got the whole world closed
But they ain't shut down these country roads
So let's rock 'n roll, let's ride high
Lookin' for a mood on a radio dial
It's a crazy world, it's a crazy time
Waitin on the radio to play John Prine
In my own little way I wanna say goodbye
I miss them crowds and I miss them lights
But thank God for a little bit of Paradise
Where we can rock 'n roll, we can ride high
We can look for a mood on a radio dial
Cause It's a crazy world, it's a crazy time
And we're waitin on the radio to play John Prine
In our own little way we wanna say goodbye
I'm waitin on the radio to play John Prine
In my own little corner of Paradise
In my own little corner of Paradise
