tour the music

Hey there! Welcome Back! We’re wrapping things up, but before ya go, I’m gonna tell you about a rainy night in Central Illinois, all the way back in 2013…

This page’s Feature Album is

crow creek

Let’s start with the Lyric Video for the title track, “Crow Creek”…
(This was back before I had the budgets for them fancy music videos we release nowadays)

Yep, that was Crow Creek rolling in the background of the lyric video. And yes, that’s a bunch of water. But the night I wrote that song, it was even higher…in full blown flood stage…

here’s the backstory…

(I wrote this account in May, 2017, just before “Crow Creek” released…)

“Back in April of 2013, we got a rain that just wouldn't quit here in central Illinois. I was on my way home from work and Crow Creek had swelled up, closing roads and making it difficult to find a route back to my house. The forecast called for the rain to keep pouring and I knew I wouldn't have anything to do or anywhere to go that night. So I picked up a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey and planned to write a song. I ended up writing 'Crow Creek.' I've never seen Crow Creek, or the Illinois River it feeds into, rise so high and cause so much destruction, before or since writing this song. Ironically, the closest it has come was in the same week we sent this song off to be mastered, just a month or so before its release. Once again, it covered bridges and closed roads. "Crow Creek' is a storyline...its about alcohol abuse, love, memories, nostalgia & crossroads. Its about choices & faint glimmers of hope. My hope is that this song is able to capture the power of that creek in flood stage and the destruction that 'brown water', in its several forms, can cause in our lives."

(This promo shot, and the others I’ll show below, we’re all taken in Crow Creek…during a rainstorm…with a bottle of Buffalo Trace Whiskey…and much shorter hair…and my dog Sam)

Me and Sam both looked a lot younger…less gray hair in our whiskers. We’re always changing. Just like this creek. Every time it storms, the creek changes…reshapes its banks…changes its course.

But its always beautiful. And sometimes its peaceful. This is where the Crow Creek joins the Illinois River. I took this on a day where we boated out on the river and hung out here at the meetin point.

enough nostalgia. let’s get back to the music…

Fun Fact: the other three songs on the Crow Creek album were originally released by themselves on a record called
Feel Like Me
