Songs Without a home

Now we’re going to head to down Nashville where I recorded Songs Without A Home, a 3-song mini-album that I released in November, 2019

I originally released this song as a single in July, 2019. Here’s what I had to say about this release at the time:

“I don’t write a lot of love songs. At least not like this. ‘Lay Down’ is vulnerable, intense, and probably one of the more provocative songs I’ve written.

It’s easy to build up boundaries in life, specifically in relationships. But in the end, I think all we really want is a safe place to be ourselves. And maybe someone to share that place with.

‘Lay Down’ is about breaking down the walls we’ve built and allowing ourselves to draw closer to something authentic, intimate, and most importantly, safe. It’s about finding a place, or a person, where we can rest, find some companionship, and find some peace.”

we cut this little record in nashville…

There was this gold, or platinum, or whatever record hangin’ on the wall, along with a bunch of others, that if I remember correctly, had Alabama on it. I think there might’ve been a Travis Tritt one too. I don’t know.

All I do know is that there was also little ole me, beltin’ my little ole heart out, to this little ole song I wrote called, “Lay Down,” in this little ole vocal booth, inside this incredible recording studio where countless hits have been made, down in big ole Nashville, Tennessee.

…with some awesome players…

Several of these fellers played on my song “First Saw You,” as well as much bigger songs for much bigger people…

That’s Scott on drums on the far left, then Jeff King (he plays guitar in Reba’s band). Duncan has played bass on the show Nashville. The ugly one in the middle stood around a lot. Joe Carrell produced and drank a big Busch Light with me. Jason hit the keys, and we got to borrow Danny Rader from Keith Urban’s band.

More folks worked on this song too..check ‘em out down at the bottom of this page.

Then we drank them big ass busch lights i was telling ya about

Actually, Joe (Producer Joe, not singer Joe…who is me), only drank about half of his. Cardinal fans just have trouble handlin’ a big Busch, I reckon…

(Don’t worry folks. I drank all mine. And the other half of his.)

then i celebrated. with my person. out on the town.

I was readin’ this book recently, by some feller named Tracy, and it said this:

“one of the deepest cravings of human nature is to be accepted by other people without judgement, evaluation, or criticism.”

That’s exactly who Elise is to me. That is exactly what this song’s about. If you’ve got that person, hang the hell on. If you don’t quite yet, don’t settle and don’t stop looking. And if you’re tempted to give up, watch the “Lay Down” music video once or twice and reconsider. It’s worth it.

Anyways, now that you’ve met Elise (yes, she’s the one in the music video :) and got the Nashville scoop on how we recorded these songs…
